Project Description

The new Fraport Terminal is an addition to the biggest airport in Slovenia. On the 1st of July 2021, the terminal opened its doors for its first guests. Thanks to the modern infrastructure spread over an area of 10,000 m², Fraport Slovenia offers its users higher quality, a greater variety of services and a better working environment to rank Ljubljana Airport amongst Europe’s most modern airports.

The main reason for the new terminal was that Ljubljana airport was facing a large influx of new passengers and couldn't manage them efficiently during peak times. The previous capacity of 500 passengers per hour has long been exceeded and with the new Fraport terminal, Ljubljana airport can now manage more than 1.280 passengers per hour. The new passenger terminal offers greater capacity and higher standards for passengers, other users and employees. The existing terminal has gained 10,000 m² of new floor space, including a new departure hall, 14 check-in desks, five lanes for security screenings, two baggage claim carousels, a new baggage sorting area, a new business lounge and enhanced catering and retail amenities.

The building was constructed in record time, works began in July 2019 and the total value of the investment in the new infrastructure was 21 million euros. The decrepit condition of the old passenger terminal building made it difficult to uphold contemporary standards for passenger arrivals and departures and Fraport Slovenia sees this project as a strategic investment crucial to the airport’s long-term development and future.

About the Project

ComfortClick’s Premium Installer, Elektro-Pirnat automated the building with ComfortClick Sledgehammer. The lights in the terminal are controlled entirely via the DALI system and all the lights are connected to the KNX system via 23 KNX / DALI interfaces. The terminal has 202 motion sensors and 3 sensors for measuring the brightness of natural light. These sensors are placed outside and positioned on the north, west and roof of the terminal. In the picture below you can see the ComfortClick visualization used to indicate the natural light brightness in different parts of the terminal.

With the data collected from the sensors, all lights in the terminal automatically adjust their brightness according to the outside light.

The floor plan shows the state of the system, settings and management options. There are three levels of access available, offering different management options for the users.

With a fully automated lighting system controlled by ComfortClick, the airport can ensure the perfect lighting in every area and room with an overlook of the energy consumption.
